Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd has approached the Ministry of Environment and Forests in connection with its proposed plan to set up a synthetic organic intermediates chemicals manufacturing unit at Shendra in Maharashtra'''s Aurangabad district.

The company proposes to produce 1628 kg of synthetic organic intermediates chemicals per month. The products proposed are Bendamustine, Clofarabine, Decitabine, Triflusal, Penciclovir, Adapalene microsphere, Tretenion microsphere and Ritapamulin.

The company said it will invest Rs 47 crore in the project. The land area is 33 acres of which 10.89 acres is for greenbelt development.

According to Glenmark, it will employ 80 people.

There are also no historical places, defence installations, archaeological sites, wildlife sanctuaries or national parks and ecologically-sensitive areas within a 10 km radius from the project site.

The increasing industrial activity will also boost up the commercial and economic status of the locality, the company said in its presentation.

In order to mitigate the air pollutants and to attenuate the noise generated by the plant and also improving the ecology and aesthetics of the area, the unit will develop the green belt, the company said, adding there will not be any major potential for negative impact on the environment due to the proposed project and that all environmental infrastructures are available in the region.

On the contrary, there will be positive impact on the socio-economic environment since the project will generate some permanent and secondary employment and it will increase direct and indirect employment opportunities, the company said.

The company further said it will adopt all safety and hazard identification measures besides a strong disaster management policy.
