Zuari Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited has requested the Environment and Forest Ministry for amendment in terms of reference in its environmental clearance to its Greenfield ammonia urea fertiliser project due to change in project location.

The company wants the site to be changed to Mastiholi due to land availability changed by the Karnataka government.

The company had earlier applied for environmental clearance for 2200 MTPD ammonia plant and 3880 MTPD urea plant with production of 12.8 lakh MTPA.

The company has now requested for amendment in EC to include the following capacities:

Ammonia plant: 2200 MTPD
Urea plant: 3850 MTPD
Annual production: 14.1 lakh MTPA.

The plant will occupy a total land area of 735 acres.

The terms of reference for EIA Study as cited by the company are:

1. MoEF had granted ToR for conducting EIA study for the company's previously selected site at Biranahalli.

2. As the new project location is near to the previous site in Hukkeri of Belgaum district.

3. This site was one of the most preferable site for setting up the plant and PDIL had recommended it for the same.
