Topsoe to supply ammonia technology for First Ammonia’s Texas green ammonia project

Topsoe has signed an agreement with First Ammonia to supply its dynamic ammonia synthesis technology for a planned green ammonia production facility in Victoria, Texas, as the US green ammonia sector moves closer to commercial-scale deployment.
The project will use green hydrogen produced through electrolysis powered by renewable electricity. The facility is being developed to supply green ammonia to both US and international markets.

Under the agreement, Topsoe will provide its dynamic ammonia synthesis technology, developed specifically for green ammonia plants. The system is designed to rapidly adjust production in response to fluctuations in renewable power generation.
The technology can ramp ammonia production from 10 percent to 100 percent—or reduce it at a similar rate—within 30 minutes, enabling the synthesis loop to operate safely, reliably and efficiently despite changes in available power.

The Victoria project is part of First Ammonia’s broader strategy to develop modular, commercial-scale green ammonia plants powered by renewable energy. The company is targeting project sites worldwide with access to low-cost renewable energy and/or government incentives.
First Ammonia aims to develop, own and operate production facilities across five continents, with engineering and project development operations in Houston and Copenhagen.
Green ammonia is increasingly being positioned as a potential decarbonisation option for agriculture, chemicals, power generation and energy storage, as well as transportation and renewable-energy-based fuels.
