The two companies will expand cooperation around Arkema’s current and future battery materials portfolio and Senior’s advanced separator technologies and industrialization capabilities

Arkema and Senior have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deepen a long-term strategic partnership aimed at accelerating innovation across the global battery value chain.

The agreement brings together Arkema, a global leader in Specialty Materials, and Senior, a leading battery separator technology provider, to jointly advance next-generation battery materials and manufacturing solutions for the rapidly expanding new energy sector. The collaboration will span technical development, commercial alignment and application-focused innovation.

Under the MoU, the two companies will expand cooperation around Arkema’s current and future battery materials portfolio and Senior’s advanced separator technologies and industrialization capabilities. The goal is to speed up the development, validation and large-scale deployment of new material solutions that enhance battery performance, safety and manufacturing efficiency.

Key areas of focus include advanced adhesion technologies, controlled deposition and coating processes on electrodes, low-temperature cell assembly, and emerging semi-solid battery manufacturing technologies. By combining Arkema’s expertise in high-performance Specialty Materials with Senior’s deep know-how in separator design, manufacturing and large-scale industrialization, the partners aim to deliver practical innovations ready for industrial deployment.

Arkema brings to the collaboration a broad portfolio of materials tailored to the evolving needs of the battery industry, including Kynar PVDF, known for its chemical resistance and mechanical integrity, and Incellion acrylic-based solutions designed to improve adhesion and overall battery performance. These materials play a critical role in improving safety, durability and efficiency in batteries used for electric mobility and large-scale energy storage.

Senior, meanwhile, is a global supplier of high-performance separator films for lithium-ion batteries, supporting applications ranging from electric vehicles and consumer electronics to renewable energy systems. With R&D and manufacturing platforms across China, Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States, the company supports the transition of next-generation battery technologies from laboratory development to mass production.

“This cooperation with Senior reflects our shared ambition to push the boundaries of battery materials innovation,” said Armand Ajdari, Chief Technology Officer of Arkema. “By combining Arkema’s materials science expertise with Senior’s strong industrial and application capabilities, we aim to accelerate the development of advanced solutions that address the evolving needs of the global battery market.”

“This collaboration with Arkema is strategically important for Senior as we continue to advance next-generation battery performance,” said Steven Zhang, Chief Technology Officer of Senior. “By working closely with Arkema, we strengthen our ability to industrialize innovative material solutions and support our customers with reliable, high-performance technologies across the global battery value chain.”

Both companies said the partnership is designed to foster long-term innovation, reinforce their technical leadership and support the broader adoption of high-performance, sustainable battery solutions worldwide.
