VOLTRICELL marks Dow’s first materials platform specifically designed to support optimal electrochemistry inside battery cells

Dow has unveiled VOLTRICELL, a new battery materials platform designed to improve manufacturing efficiency and boost the performance of existing and emerging battery technologies, including sodium-ion, silicon-anode and solid-state batteries.

Announced at The Battery Show North America 2026, VOLTRICELL marks Dow’s first materials platform specifically designed to support optimal electrochemistry inside battery cells. The launch brings together the company’s expanding portfolio of battery cell materials under a unified offering aimed at addressing evolving industry demands.

As battery manufacturers race to increase energy density, extend cycle life, accelerate charging and scale production, the industry faces mounting pressure to deliver better performance across multiple chemistries and manufacturing processes.

Dow’s VOLTRICELL platform is designed to address these challenges across electrodes, separators, coatings and battery cell packaging. Its portfolio includes binders, dispersants, rheology modifiers, surfactants and specialty additives that can be selected and combined to support battery performance, manufacturing efficiency and production scalability.

"In the battery industry, there are a multitude of chemistries and cell manufacturing strategies in play and under development for the future," said Joel McDonald, Global Technical Director for Dow MobilityScience.

"Battery manufacturers need materials partners that can evolve with their technology roadmaps. Through VOLTRICELL™, we can help customers innovate with confidence, leveraging Dow’s broad toolbox to support today's cell chemistries and the next generation of energy storage."

The launch underscores Dow’s continued push to strengthen its position across the battery value chain by combining materials science expertise with application development and global technical support.

Through its global MobilityScience Studios, Dow aims to help battery manufacturers accelerate innovation from cell design to system-level integration, supporting the development of solutions tailored to changing battery technologies and production requirements.

Alongside the VOLTRICELL launch, Dow will showcase materials designed to support battery fire protection at The Battery Show North America 2026.

The featured products include:

VORAFORCE TP1415 Polyol: A polyurethane resin system for manufacturing lightweight, fiber-reinforced composites. It is designed to deliver impact resistance, corrosion resistance and flame-retardant performance in polyurethane pultrusion applications.

DOWSIL EF-6559 Silicone Foam: A two-part expanding foam designed to fill narrow and complex spaces within battery assemblies. When exposed to high heat, it forms a protective ceramic layer and is designed to support thermal management and electrical insulation in high-volume series production.

DOWSIL FC-2024 Coating: A one-part, room-temperature-vulcanizing (RTV) coating for battery housings, enclosures and lids. During a thermal event, it forms a hard protective ceramic layer to support battery fire protection across cylindrical, prismatic and pouch-based battery systems.

With VOLTRICELL and its fire protection materials, Dow is expanding its battery-focused offerings to address two critical industry priorities: improving cell performance and supporting safety as battery technologies advance and manufacturing scales up.
