The GigaBattery Boxberg 400 installation will anchor LEAG’s sweeping GigawattFactory concept

HyperStrong International (Germany) has struck a major EPC deal with LEAG Clean Power to build a 1.6 GWh utility-scale battery storage facility in Boxberg—set to become one of Europe’s largest once online.

The project places the Beijing-based company, a subsidiary of HyperStrong Technology Co, at the center of Germany’s accelerating energy transition.

The GigaBattery Boxberg 400 installation will anchor LEAG’s sweeping GigawattFactory concept, a massive renewable hub designed to fuse solar, wind, long-duration storage, and hydrogen-ready power plants into a flexible, future-proof energy system.

LEAG says the partnership reinforces its mission to secure a reliable and sustainable electricity supply for Germany as fossil-fuel capacity continues to phase out.

The Boxberg system will use HyperStrong’s four-hour HyperBlock III technology, a field-proven grid-scale solution built for high reliability and diverse weather conditions. Its liquid-cooled architecture, advanced energy management, and safety performance are designed to stabilize the grid, smooth renewable volatility, and bolster regional energy security.

"With this project, we continue to accelerate our GigawattFactory strategy and expand the foundation for a carbon-neutral energy system," said Adi Roesch, CEO of LEAG Group. "Battery energy storage plays a crucial role in balancing renewable fluctuations and ensuring energy remains available when it is needed. Working with a technology-driven partner like HyperStrong enables us to deliver on this vision efficiently and at scale."

HyperStrong, whose EMEA headquarters is in Frankfurt, is a Tier-1 global storage provider with more than 45 GWh deployed across 400+ projects. The company will deliver a turnkey package for Boxberg, covering engineering, equipment, system integration, commissioning, grid connection, and long-term operations.

"We are honored to partner with LEAG Clean Power on this landmark 1.6 GWh project, which demonstrates both companies' shared commitment to building a resilient, low-carbon energy future," said Dr. Jianhui Zhang, Chairman and CEO of HyperStrong.

"This collaboration represents not only a milestone for our global strategy, but also a significant contribution to Germany's and Europe's renewable energy transition. Together, we are unlocking the potential of energy storage to power the next era of clean energy."

Germany has repeatedly emphasized that large-scale storage is critical to securing a stable, affordable, and renewable-dominated power grid. The HyperStrong-LEAG alliance reflects the country’s growing urgency to scale storage infrastructure at speed.

"This partnership brings together complementary strengths – the energy expertise of LEAG Clean Power and HyperStrong's approach to ensure high technical availability and efficiency," said Thomas Brandenburg, CEO of LEAG Clean Power.

"The project will set a new milestone for battery storage deployment in Europe and demonstrates the growing importance of global collaboration in achieving energy transition goals."

Pingyang Wang, Senior Vice President of HyperStrong International and President of EMEA Region, added, "We are truly honored that LEAG Clean Power has selected HyperStrong as their partner for the Boxberg project. This trust inspires us to bring our full expertise and commitment to deliver a project of the highest quality, while strengthening our long-term presence in Germany and supporting the energy transition across Europe."
