KPI Green Energy Limited has secured a major boost to its clean energy ambitions.

The company's subsidiary, Sun Drops Energia Private Limited, has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) to develop large-scale battery storage projects in the state.

The LOI covers self-owned Independent Power Producer (IPP) standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects with a combined capacity of 445 MW / 890 MWh, to be set up across multiple locations in Gujarat.

The award was issued through a tariff-based competitive bidding process under Phase-VII of the Standalone BESS programme and is supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF) through the Power System Development Fund (PSDF).

The project marks two significant milestones for the Group: its first-ever utility-scale IPP BESS project and its first BESS project awarded by a major government body.

With this win, the Group formally enters the utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems segment, adding a new strategic asset class to its renewable energy portfolio that already includes solar, wind and hybrid power projects.

Standalone BESS projects are grid-connected energy storage facilities that operate independently of any specific solar or wind power plant. They enable utilities to store electricity during off-peak periods and dispatch power during peak demand.

Projects of this scale are increasingly seen as critical infrastructure for grid reliability, peak power management and renewable energy integration, underscoring KPI Green Energy’s expanding capabilities in emerging clean energy segments.
