Factorial opted to formalize the partnership after testing POSCO Future M’s cathode materials

POSCO Future M, a leading battery materials supplier, and Factorial Inc, a pioneer in solid-state battery technology, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of all-solid-state batteries.

The MoU ceremony took place at the Future Battery Forum in Berlin, with POSCO Future M Head of Technology Research Laboratory Hong Young-Jun and Factorial CEO Siyu Huang in attendance, alongside executives from both companies.

Under the agreement, the two firms will explore joint development of materials for all-solid-state batteries, which are driving innovation in electric vehicles, robotics, energy storage systems, and other next-generation industries. These batteries, which replace liquid electrolytes with solid ones, promise higher safety, greater energy density, and faster charging than traditional lithium-ion batteries.

Factorial opted to formalize the partnership after testing POSCO Future M’s cathode materials, noting they “demonstrated good rate capability.”

POSCO Future M aims to use the collaboration to strengthen its competitiveness in the all-solid-state battery market. The company is actively conducting R&D on cathode and silicon anode materials, while the POSCO Group continues research on lithium metal anodes and sulfide-based solid electrolytes.

“We expect synergy in the next-generation all-solid-state battery business based on Factorial’s battery technology and market presence with global automakers, and POSCO Future M’s competitiveness in cathode and anode materials,” said Hong Young-Jun.

“Solid-state batteries are entering a new era of commercial readiness,” added Factorial CEO Siyu Huang. “We expect work with POSCO Future M to not only accelerate innovation in critical cathode and anode materials, but also strengthen a resilient global supply chain and drive meaningful cost reductions at scale.”
