AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings is set to spotlight cutting-edge drone inspection technology and immersive VR training solutions at MRO Greater China as the aviation maintenance sector races to keep pace with booming demand across the region.

Appearing at the Capital International Exhibition Center of China from May 26–28, the company will showcase its Aerofleet Coatings Management portfolio aimed at helping airlines and MRO providers sharpen coating performance, improve inspection accuracy and strengthen workforce readiness.

A major highlight will be the newly launched Iris CMX (Coatings Management eXpert) drone. Equipped with a 3-in-1 contact-based sensor, the drone delivers high-precision measurements of dry film thickness, color and gloss, enabling airlines to gain a clearer understanding of coating conditions and streamline fleet maintenance planning.

AkzoNobel will also put workforce development center stage with demonstrations of its Aerofleet Training+ Virtual Reality platform.

As demand surges for skilled aircraft painters and more international airlines turn to China for repainting work, the immersive VR system offers realistic paint-training simulations and real-time performance feedback without material waste or operational downtime.

The debut edition of MRO Greater China marks a major moment for the aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul industry, combining a high-level conference with specialized exhibition zones spread across 20,000 sqm.

With China’s aviation market expanding rapidly, the pressure is growing for stronger local supply chains, faster service response and enhanced operational resilience.

Marius Vasiliu, Regional Sales Director at AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings Asia Pacific, says the company’s presence at the show underscores its accelerating investment in the region.

“As China’s aviation market continues to expand rapidly, operations across the industry are scaling to meet the rising passenger demand.

"In response we have continued to invest in our local offering, for example our color blending facility in Dongguan has been fully certified by COMAC, Airbus, Boeing and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), allowing us to stock, blend and deliver coatings directly to customers within China."

He added: “We are proud of our work in the region, such as being selected for the first COMAC C919 delivered to China Southern Airlines, and helping to create its ‘Beautiful Greater Bay Area’ livery.

"Crafted by our local team in Dongguan, the aircraft featured a palette of 44 AkzoNobel colors to achieve a full-body custom design. Our attendance at MRO Greater China will provide further opportunities to meet with industry leaders and experts to build more relationships within the region.”

Through advanced inspection technology, data-driven maintenance insights and next-generation VR training, AkzoNobel is positioning itself at the forefront of Asia’s fast-evolving aerospace operations market.
