Arkema presents Forane 516A, now commercially available as a design-compatible replacement for R-134a

Arkema has introduced Forane 516A, a new hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) refrigerant blend designed to meet the rising demand for low global warming potential (GWP) alternatives. Engineered as a sustainable replacement for R-134a in HVAC and refrigeration systems, this EPA SNAP-approved blend is non-ozone depleting. Forane 516A delivers an exceptional balance of safety and high performance, making it an ideal choice for both equipment manufacturers and end users.

“Forane 516A highlights Arkema’s continued commitment to innovation in low-GWP refrigerants,” said Frederic Gauvard, Vice-President Fluorochemicals. By combining strong performance, energy efficiency, and a lower GWP, this new refrigerant helps customers prepare for the future of cooling while reinforcing Arkema’s strategic leadership in refrigerant technologies,” said Frederic Gauvard, Vice-President, Fluorochemicals, Arkema.

Forane 516A is ideal for new installations, to help customers meet increasingly strict regulations on refrigerants. With a GWP <150 and an A2L classification, Forane 516A offers a zero glide (4), low-GWP solution which improves energy efficiency in many applications, including residential and light commercial cooling, chillers, and commercial refrigeration.

Growing demand for advanced cooling highlights Forane 516A as a top choice for thermal management. It delivers the energy efficiency, environmental performance, and regulatory compliance needed for data center cooling and high-temperature heat pumps.

With this announcement, Arkema expands its portfolio of low-GWP refrigerant gas solutions and reinforces its commitment to developing more efficient refrigerant options.
