Asutosh Pellets has proposed to expand its bulk drug manufacturing unit at Vamaj in Gujarat\'s Mehsana district.
Asutosh Pellets has proposed to expand its bulk drug manufacturing unit at Vamaj in Gujarat's Mehsana district.
In its presentation before the expert committee of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, the company said the unit is currently producing 2 MTPM of pre-formulation bulk drug Omeprazole pellets. After expansion, total manufacturing capacity will be 4.6 MTPM.
The company said it has total land area of 5498 sq m and there is enough land for the proposed expansion in the existing premises only and no additional land will
be acquired for the purpose.
"The well-trained employees, laboratory and other facilities can be optimally utilised. The project site is well connected by road and rail. Besides, facilities
like power, water, communication, etc are easily available," the company said.
The total cost of the project is Rs 10 crore. Of this Rs 40 lakh is for environmental protection measures including Rs 2 lakh for greenbelt development.
The proposed products are Omeprazole Sodium, Lansoprazole, Pantoprazole Sodium,Rabeprazole Sodium, Esomeprazole Magnesium and Domperidone.
According to Asutosh Pellets, the environmental protection measures will comply with all regulations stipulated by the central and state pollution control boards
related to air emission and liquid effluent discharge as per air and water pollution control laws.
The other objectives of the environmental protection measures are:
1. To handle hazardous wastes as per the Hazardous waste (Management and Handling Rules) 1989 and subsequent amendments
2. To encourage support and conduct developmental work for the purpose of achieving environmental standards and to improve the methods of environmental management.
3. To create good working conditions (avoidance of air and noise pollution for employees).
The company said the greenbelt will be developed based on the following principles:
1. Plants that grow fast.
2. Preference for high canopy cover plants.
3. Perennial and evergreen plants will be preferred.
4. Plants which have a high air pollution tolerance index.
It said it will develop a greenbelt area of 47 per cent within its premises.
According to the company, all precautionary methods will be adopted by the company to reduce the risk of exposure of hazards to employees.
