Prexio Active offers powerful and long-lasting control of major rice pests
BASF and Nissan Chemical Corporation (Nissan) announced a strategic partnership to develop and commercialize BASF’s novel insecticide active ingredient, Prexio Active, for rice growers in Japan.
The collaboration combines BASF’s innovation in crop protection with Nissan’s strong expertise and reach in Japan’s agricultural sector to deliver sustainable and effective pest management solutions for rice cultivation.
Prexio Active offers powerful and long-lasting control of major rice pests, including rice planthoppers, green rice leafhopper, and key chewing pests such as rice water weevil, rice leaf beetle, rice stem borer, and rice skipper. Designed with operational flexibility in mind, it supports diverse rice farming practices across Japan through both granular and foliar application methods—from traditional nursery box farming to direct-seeded and transplanted systems.
“Prexio Active is the result of years of targeted research into effective and sustainable pest control,” said Harold Bastiaans, Vice President, Global Insecticide Research and Seed Solutions at BASF Agricultural Solutions. “It provides strong protection for rice crops while minimizing the impact on non-target species when applied according to label instructions.”
Stephanie Jensen, Vice President, Crop System Rice and Portfolio Solutions Insecticides and Seed Treatment at BASF Agricultural Solutions, added: “Prexio Active offers exceptional efficacy and flexibility, empowering rice growers to integrate it easily into their farming practices. This innovation supports sustainable rice production and helps manage pest resistance effectively.”
Yuji Sato, Head of the Agricultural Chemicals Division at Nissan Chemical Corporation, stated: “Our partnership with BASF reflects a shared commitment to advancing the sustainability and productivity of Japanese agriculture. Prexio Active provides growers with a valuable new tool to protect their crops and strengthen pest resistance management strategies.”
Through this partnership, BASF and Nissan will develop tailored formulations and mixtures containing Prexio Active to meet the specific needs of Japanese rice growers, helping to enhance productivity, sustainability, and long-term crop protection.
