Local capacity in India to support long-term growth in architectural paints, construction and paper industries

BASF is launching a new production line at its Mangalore plant to boost its support for the architectural paints, construction chemicals, and paper industries.  This capacity expansion for dispersions highlights the company’s long-term commitment to the Indian market and its confidence in the region’s economic growth.

As demand for high performance dispersions continues to evolve, this addition will strengthen BASF’s ability to provide reliable local supply and advanced solutions tailored to the needs of customers in India and the broader region.

“The expansion of our Mangalore site will strengthen synergies across BASF’s Asia Pacific manufacturing network, ensure dependable supply, and enable us to provide innovative, cost-competitive dispersion solutions to our customers in India and the region,” said Andreas Fechtenkoetter, Senior Vice President, Dispersions Asia Pacific, BASF.

As a leading global economy, India is experiencing rapid growth, underpinned by strong demographic factors, increased consumption, and government-led manufacturing initiatives. In response to the growing demand for high-performance, eco-friendly dispersions, BASF is upgrading its Mangalore operations to better support long-term customer goals and key industry shifts.

Leveraging on its strong acrylic value chain and broad dispersions portfolio, BASF reinforces its leadership in premium and performance-enhancing technologies locally:

• Architectural: Low-VOC and low-odour high stain and scuff resistance technologies under next-generation Acronal® product ranges enable safer, premium paints that deliver high-quality finishes while supporting sustainability and healthier indoor environments.

• Construction: Novel dispersion technologies that provide high tensile strength and high elongation for next‑generation waterproofing systems, along with advanced solutions for sealants, floor coatings, and infrastructure applications.

• Paper & Packaging: High-solids binders and Basonal® PLUS low Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) series enhance paper coating performance and support India’s sustainability goals, while technical expertise aids new paper mills and flexible packaging applications.

“The new line is designed to manufacture advanced dispersions that deliver targeted performance and sustainability benefits,” said Milind Joshi, Business Director, Dispersions, South Asia, BASF. “Acronal and Basonal technologies enable low-VOC, durable formulations across paints, construction, and paper applications, backed by reliable local production.”

With the new capacity at Mangalore site, BASF continues to affirm its position as a trusted local partner and an industry leader in dispersions. The investment enhances regional collaboration across Asia Pacific and aligns with BASF’s regional growth strategy to support customers’ long-term success.
