The Cincinnati expansion represents an important step in reinforcing BASF's leadership in the U.S. APG market
BASF has expanded its Alkyl Polyglucosides (APGs) production capacity at its Cincinnati, Ohio, facility, strengthening its US manufacturing network and boosting its ability to supply customers across North America.
The expansion, first announced in 2023, marks a significant investment in regional production capacity and reinforces Cincinnati’s growing importance in BASF’s global APG supply network. By manufacturing closer to customers, the chemical giant aims to deliver more reliable regional supply while leveraging its extensive product portfolio and formulation expertise.
"The Cincinnati expansion represents an important step in reinforcing BASF's leadership in the U.S. APG market," said Gisela Pinheiro, BASF Senior Vice President Home Care and Industrial & Institutional Cleaning. "Combining our broad APG portfolio and formulation expertise with expanded regional production allows us to work even more closely with customers. It strengthens our ability to support innovation and sustainability targets across a wide range of applications."
The expanded capacity strengthens BASF’s position in a market increasingly focused on high-performance, sustainable ingredients. APGs offer a combination of performance, mildness and biodegradability, making them suitable for applications ranging from personal care and household cleaning to industrial formulations and agriculture.
Sold under the trade names Glucopon, Plantaren, Agnique PG and Disponil APG, BASF’s APGs are non-ionic surfactants derived from 100 percent natural and renewable feedstocks. They are readily biodegradable according to OECD 301 and offer strong compatibility with other surfactants, making them versatile ingredients for a broad range of consumer and industrial products.
Cincinnati joins BASF’s existing APG production facilities in Düsseldorf, Germany; Jinshan, China; and Bangpakong, Thailand. The globally distributed manufacturing network enables the company to strengthen supply reliability and respond more effectively to customer requirements across key markets.
The Cincinnati expansion forms part of BASF’s broader Care Chemicals business, which supplies ingredients for personal care, home care, industrial and institutional cleaning, and technical applications.
Its portfolio includes surfactants, emulsifiers, polymers, emollients, chelating agents, cosmetic active ingredients and UV filters. BASF serves customers across the cosmetics, detergents and cleaning industries, with production and development facilities spanning multiple regions.
