Company to unveil Elastollan GripTec TPU series at CHINAPLAS 2026
Global chemicals giant BASF is all geared up to set a new benchmark for the global footwear market -- via a rare combination of performance, creativity, and sustainability.
At CHINAPLAS 2026, BASF will launch Elastollan GripTec, a groundbreaking thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) portfolio designed to unlock new possibilities for outsole design and manufacturing.
The series promises to combine exceptional grip, durability, design flexibility, and sustainability, targeting running and hiking enthusiasts, lifestyle fashion, and kidswear applications.
“Footwear brands are always looking for materials that enhance user experience and improve safety. Elastollan GripTec - our next-generation TPU outsole solution - is set to redefine footwear performance while enabling greater design flexibility and advancing our commitment to sustainability,” said Rohit Roop Ghosh, Vice President, Business Management TPU, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.
“Preliminary feedback from leading global footwear brands have been positive and validates the market potential of Elastollan GripTec. We will continue to collaborate with more customers to strengthen their competitiveness and drive innovation across the industry.”
Engineered for superior traction, rugged durability, and excellent abrasion resistance, Elastollan GripTec also gives designers unprecedented creative freedom. From transparent to black, the TPU allows for detailed, customizable outsole designs that go beyond conventional options.
BASF is also pushing sustainability with GripTec. Its optimized manufacturing process improves productivity, reduces energy consumption, and minimizes waste.
A life cycle assessment (LCA) by Intertek, a leading quality assurance provider, shows Elastollan GripTec achieves a 41% lower product carbon footprint than traditional rubber outsoles during production.
