Bayer Group has moved to sharpen its US glyphosate operations, announcing the consolidation of its American glyphosate business into a new unit, Ruveon, in a bid to better align with local market conditions and intensifying competition.
Based in St. Louis, Missouri, Ruveon will take full control of the U.S. glyphosate business, overseeing pricing, go-to-market strategy, production, and logistics. While operating with dedicated commercial and product teams, it will remain part of the broader Bayer Group structure.
The move is positioned as a key execution step within Bayer’s Crop Science division’s wider Five-Year Framework, a strategy designed to drive growth, resilience, and profitability while tightening focus on innovation and operations.
The company said the restructuring reflects ongoing efforts to streamline crop protection businesses in a highly competitive environment.
Bayer expects the new structure to make Ruveon a more agile player in a commodity-driven market that demands specialized execution. The company will continue supplying the U.S. agriculture sector with glyphosate products while emphasizing quality and service standards.
“Today we take an important step within our Five-Year Framework,” said Brian Naber, Head of Crop Science North America & Australia/New Zealand.
“Ruveon’s launch is a sign of our ongoing commitment to excellence in the glyphosate market. Consolidating U.S. glyphosate resources and operations benefits customers, partners and other stakeholders by enabling the Ruveon and Bayer Group teams to fully dedicate the appropriate focus and resources to best meet and anticipate our respective customers’ needs.”
Leadership at the new entity will be headed by Alfonso Alba Ordóñez, who joins Ruveon as Chief Executive Officer after more than three decades in senior roles across Bayer Group’s global agricultural operations spanning Europe, South America, North America, and China.
