Syngenta sues BASF for herbicide patent infringement
Syngenta has filed a federal patent infringement lawsuit against BASF in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. The lawsuit, docketed as Syngenta Crop Protection AG v. BASF Agricultural Solutions US LLC, accuses BASF of copying proprietary agrochemical formulations to create a rival corn herbicide.
Syngenta alleges that BASF's upcoming corn herbicide, Ridivex, infringes on U.S. Patent No. 8,404,618. This patent protects Syngenta's proprietary chemical composition used in its flagship competitor herbicide, Storen.
