The investment expands Calgon Carbon’s reactivation infrastructure in one of the United States’ most important industrial regions

Calgon Carbon Corporation has completed a multi-million-dollar expansion of its Crosby, Texas, facility, nearly doubling the site’s capacity to produce reactivated carbon as the company moves to strengthen domestic supply for industrial customers across the Gulf Coast.

The investment expands Calgon Carbon’s reactivation infrastructure in one of the United States’ most important industrial regions and marks the latest step in the company’s broader push to grow its U.S. operations.

“The strength of American industry is deeply connected to the Gulf Coast, and our Crosby operation is a vital part of that ecosystem,” said Steve Schott, President and CEO of Calgon Carbon.

“With Kuraray’s support, this investment expands our reactivation capacity and strengthens the domestic infrastructure needed to meet growing demand. We’re investing for the long term in the technology, people and capabilities that will define the future of our industry.”

Activated carbon is widely used to capture contaminants and support purification across industrial applications. Calgon Carbon’s thermal reactivation process restores spent activated carbon so it can be reused, helping reduce waste and treatment costs while providing an alternative to producing and supplying virgin carbon.

The expanded Crosby operation is expected to further strengthen that circular approach by increasing the amount of spent carbon that can be returned to service. Reactivation also carries a significantly lower carbon footprint than the production and supply of virgin activated carbon, according to the company.

“This is a real step change for our Gulf Coast customers. By nearly doubling our reactivation capacity at Crosby, we can keep more carbon working, cut waste and treatment costs, and give customers a reliable domestic supply they can count on. Demand is growing, and we intend to stay ahead of it,” said Jenalle Brewer, Executive Vice President of Calgon Carbon.

The expansion adds capacity at a time when industrial customers are seeking reliable domestic sources of activated carbon and reactivation services. It also reinforces Calgon Carbon’s broader investment in US manufacturing and reactivation infrastructure.
