Chandra Asri Group, through its subsidiary PT Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA), has reached a major milestone in strengthening Indonesia’s chemical industry, as construction of its Chlor Alkali and Ethylene Dichloride (CA-EDC) plant officially hits 50% completion.
The strategic facility in Cilegon has entered its peak construction phase, signaling a decisive step toward a more independent and resilient domestic industrial ecosystem by boosting local production of essential chemicals.
Key milestones are already complete, including installation of the plant’s main structure, piping network, and electrical systems — all paving the way for the facility to begin commercial operations in the first quarter of 2027. The project is expected to absorb around 3,000 workers during construction and generate 250 new jobs once fully operational. Local MSMEs are also integrated into the plant’s sustainable operational ecosystem.
Erwin Ciputra, President Director & CEO of Chandra Asri Group, highlighted the broader economic impact: “The presence of the CA-EDC plant will strengthen national supply security while optimizing regional market potential through EDC product export opportunities.”
He added that the project will deliver significant economic benefits. “With a projected import substitution of caustic soda worth IDR 4.9 trillion and potential annual foreign exchange earnings from EDC exports reaching IDR 5 trillion, Chandra Asri Group affirms its commitment as a Growth Partner in creating greater added value for the Indonesian economy.”
