The new coating promises both durability and easy cleanup, allowing building surfaces to be restored without lingering marks or damage

In a decisive move to reshape the building protection industry, global speciality chemicals major Evonik has launched Protectosil ECO-TRETE ANTIGRAFFITI—a next-generation solution designed to tackle graffiti without relying on added PFAS, a class of chemicals under growing global scrutiny.

Built on high-performance silane chemistry, the new coating promises both durability and easy cleanup, allowing building surfaces to be restored without lingering marks or damage. The company says the product responds directly to tightening regulations and mounting demand for environmentally responsible alternatives.

“Protectosil ECO-TRETE ANTIGRAFFITI demonstrates how we translate responsible chemistry into practical solutions for the building sector,” says Susanne Martens-Kruck, Technical Marketing Manager for Silanes at Evonik’s Smart Effects business line.

At the core of the innovation is an advanced silane system that chemically bonds with surfaces, delivering long-term protection even after repeated cleaning. “Even after repeated cleaning cycles, the protective effect remains intact, reducing maintenance efforts and supporting the long-term preservation of building surfaces“, adds Martens-Kruck.

For Evonik, the launch is more than just a product release—it’s a strategic signal. “Protectosil ECO-TRETE ANTIGRAFFITI represents a decisive leap in durable, responsible building protection. Delivering this level of performance as an PFAS-alternative solution, sets new standards for our industry,” says Steffen Zeisel, Global Marketing Director for Building Protection at Smart Effects.

While the formulation avoids intentionally added PFAS, the company acknowledges that trace amounts may still occur due to broader industrial supply chains—a limitation it says it is actively working to reduce through ongoing process improvements.
