Integrating bromine production directly into the company’s existing salt operations creates powerful raw material synergies
Leading chemical manufacturer GHCL Limited officially commenced the commercial production of Liquid Bromine (Br2) today. The newly operationalized facility is located in Kathivadar village, within the Amreli district of Gujarat.
Boasting an annual installed capacity of 2,800 Metric Tonnes (MT), the plant is strategically positioned to serve both expanding domestic industrial clients and international export markets.
This milestone marks a significant structural transition for GHCL, moving its portfolio away from a heavy reliance on core commodity soda ash and industrial salt into high-margin specialty chemical streams.
Integrating bromine production directly into the company’s existing salt operations creates powerful raw material synergies, drastically boosting operating efficiencies. The project requires a modest initial capital expenditure of Rs. 150 crores, a part of their broader Rs. 300 crore diversification framework.
Bromine is a high-value commodity that commands substantial operating profit margins. It serves high-growth end-user segments including flame retardants, water treatment biocides, agrochemicals, and clear brine fluids utilized in oil and gas exploration. Looking ahead, GHCL is already evaluating downstream bromine derivatives to capture further value-chain expansion.
