Expands ethanol capacity at Karnataka plant
Godavari Biorefineries, an integrated biorefinery, has commissioned commercial operations at its new 200 KLPD corn and grain-based distillery at the Sameerwadi unit in Karnataka, marking a significant expansion of its ethanol production capabilities.
Built with an investment of Rs 130 crore, the new facility increases the site's total ethanol production capacity to 800 KLPD, adding 60 million litres of annual ethanol output.
The expansion enables the Sameerwadi complex to process both grain and sugarcane, allowing the company to switch between feedstocks depending on seasonal availability.
The dual-feedstock capability is expected to improve operational resilience, reduce exposure to feedstock and climate-related disruptions, and ensure a more reliable ethanol supply while supporting India's Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP) and strengthening the country's energy security.
Speaking on the commencement, Samir Somaiya, Chairman and Managing Director of Godavari Biorefineries Limited, said: "India's energy future will be built from its fields. By introducing a grain-based ecosystem alongside our sugarcane footprint, we are building a truly resilient, circular biorefinery model that draws its strength from the sun, the soil, and the small farmer.
"Ethanol blending programme targets give India's biorefinery sector a solid floor, and we shall ensure a reliable & resilient supply chain, one that directly supports the agricultural communities that drive our feedstock network."
The commissioning of the new distillery further strengthens Godavari Biorefineries' integrated biorefinery platform, enhancing its ability to deliver ethanol, bio-based specialty chemicals, and renewable energy through a diversified agricultural feedstock base.
