The newly acquired facility will deliver ISO 17025-accredited testing for solar PV installations

Intertek Group has strengthened its renewable energy capabilities by acquiring the assets of a state-of-the-art solar PV laboratory in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, from Mitsui Chemicals India, a global chemical manufacturer.

The move comes as solar PV surges as the world’s fastest-growing renewable energy source, with India positioned at the centre of the transition. The Government of India has set an ambitious target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity by 2030, including 280 GW from solar, sharply increasing demand for independent, accredited quality assurance services.

The newly acquired facility will deliver ISO 17025-accredited testing for solar PV installations, materials, and components, alongside BIS and IECEE CB Scheme accreditations. It is designed to support both domestic manufacturers and global companies entering the Indian market by enabling harmonised testing, improved efficiency, and faster access to international markets.

The addition bolsters Intertek’s Risk-based Quality Assurance offering in the solar PV sector and expands its presence across Western India. It also enhances the company’s broader renewable energy capabilities, building on Intertek CEA’s end-to-end services, including drone-based inspections and solar plant assessments for manufacturers, developers, and investors.

Commenting on the acquisition, André Lacroix, Chief Executive Officer of Intertek, said: “Solar is a major driver of the energy transition and India is one of the world’s leading solar energy producers, making it a highly attractive market for our industry-leading ATIC solutions. We look forward to seizing the exciting opportunities to accelerate growth and contribute long-term to India’s electrification journey.”
