The deal supports Kemira’s strategy to grow its water business

Kemira has strengthened its position in sustainable water treatment with the completed acquisition of REPUR S.r.l., an Italy-based specialist in activated carbon reactivation services for municipal and industrial water treatment applications.

The deal supports Kemira’s strategy to grow its water business while tapping into emerging circular economy opportunities. REPUR’s expertise in the thermal reactivation of spent activated carbon enables customers to restore and reuse carbon media from water treatment processes, reducing reliance on virgin materials.

REPUR generated slightly more than €5 million in revenue in 2025 and employs 21 people. The companies have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

“This acquisition is a strong example of executing our growth strategy,” said Tuija Pohjolainen-Hiltunen, EVP, Water Solutions. “Activated carbon plays an increasingly important role in removing contaminants from water, while the regeneration and reactivation of spent carbon supports circularity and resource efficiency.”

The acquisition adds new capabilities to Kemira’s Water Solutions business unit, reinforcing its focus on sustainable solutions for water-intensive industries. REPUR’s operations will continue from its existing location in Italy as part of the integration into Kemira’s global business.

With demand growing for technologies that improve water quality while reducing resource consumption, Kemira said the acquisition creates new opportunities in circularity-driven markets and strengthens its ability to support customers with more sustainable water treatment solutions.
