Sustainable raw materials producer Perpetual Next has appointed international industrial services provider Bilfinger as Owner’s Engineer for the further development of its DeltaTorr and DeltaNor projects in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, marking a key step towards a Final Investment Decision (FID).

 

The appointment comes as Perpetual Next advances plans for a large-scale biomethanol production facility designed to convert sustainable biogenic residues into biomethanol for use across industries including maritime and chemicals.

 

The Delfzijl development forms a central part of the company’s ambition to establish large-scale production of biomethanol from residues. The proposed facility could represent a total capital investment of up to €1 billion.

 

Bilfinger will support Perpetual Next through the next stage of project development, bringing together project partners and technical disciplines as the development moves closer to an FID.

The project is also positioned as a potential boost to domestic production of sustainable fuels. Perpetual Next says the facility could help strengthen the Netherlands’ and Europe’s position in the emerging biomethanol economy, while supporting supply security and strategic autonomy.

 

Methanol is expected to play an increasing role as a sustainable fuel and as a building block for the chemical industry, making domestic production strategically significant, according to the company.

 

Bilfinger will work alongside Perpetual Next and the project’s other partners and stakeholders as development progresses towards the next phase.
