PI Industries registers India’s first discovered insecticide active ingredient 'Pioxaniliprole'

Pioxaniliprole will reach farmers under the brand name Pioxazon

PI Industries has secured registration for Pioxaniliprole in India, covering both the technical material and formulation, marking a major milestone in the company’s innovation journey and what it describes as a significant moment for India’s crop-protection sector.

The registration completes PI Industries’ journey of taking its first proprietary molecule from discovery and development through to regulatory approval. The company said the achievement underscores its growing capabilities in innovation-led agricultural science.

Pioxaniliprole will reach farmers under the brand name Pioxazon, taking the molecule from the laboratory to the market and setting the stage for PI Industries to take its proprietary innovation from India to farmers globally.

The significance of the registration extends beyond PI Industries. In its formal observations, the Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee (CIBRC) recognised Pioxaniliprole as the first insecticide active ingredient discovered in India.

The approval was granted at the 476th meeting of the Registration Committee under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

The registered Pioxaniliprole 20% w/v SC formulation has been approved for use across several major crops and target pests:

Rice: Yellow Stem Borer, Leaf Folder, Fall Armyworm

Chilli: Fruit Borer, Tobacco Caterpillar

Tomato: Fruit Borer

Bengal Gram: Pod Borer 

From Indigenous Science to Commercialisation

The registration comes as India pushes to strengthen domestic research and development and promote indigenous technologies for the benefit of farmers.

For PI Industries, the approval represents the culmination of more than a decade of scientific research, investment, persistence and collaboration across teams.

The company said Pioxaniliprole demonstrates its ability to originate proprietary science and intellectual property in India and take an innovation through the complete lifecycle—from discovery and development to registration and commercialisation.

With Pioxaniliprole now registered, PI Industries is positioning the molecule as a milestone in its own R&D evolution—and as a broader marker of India’s ability to develop proprietary crop-protection science from the ground up.
