RENOLIT pours €56 million into major Worms production upgrade

RENOLIT is investing €56 million in a new raw-material processing facility at its Worms headquarters, accelerating the modernisation of one of its key production sites and bringing greater automation, efficiency and improved working conditions to the operation.
Construction of the new mixing plant is progressing on schedule, with earthworks having started in February and precast concrete elements now being installed. The building is at the heart of RENOLIT’s manufacturing process, where plastics, colour pigments and other additives are precisely weighed and blended before being used to produce the company’s plastic films.
“With this investment, we are safeguarding the long-term performance of our main plant in Worms,” explains Michael Bätz, Plant Manager at RENOLIT’s headquarters. “The new facility enables us to make our production processes more efficient whilst significantly improving working conditions for our staff through modern ergonomic and logistics concepts. We are also making targeted investments in environmentally friendly technologies.”
The new multi-storey facility will significantly automate the movement and processing of raw materials. Automated, self-driving transport vehicles will take over the movement of heavy material containers, reducing the physical demands placed on employees.
A fully enclosed steel tunnel will connect the new mixing plant directly with the existing production hall, allowing the vehicles to transport materials automatically between the two facilities while remaining protected from the weather.
Inside the new plant, eight large outdoor storage silos will initially hold raw materials, with capacity to expand to 16 silos. The facility will also feature 37 automatic weighing stations, enabling precise dosing of ingredients. A specialised system will ensure even tiny quantities, including colour pigments, are added with gram-level accuracy.
Six large mixing stations, supported by a computer-controlled system, will oversee the production process and help improve both safety and reliability.
RENOLIT is also building environmental considerations into the new facility. Heat pumps will provide heating, while new drive technology for the container mixers is designed to improve cooling efficiency, reduce maintenance requirements and lower operating noise.
Structural containment measures will further reduce environmental risks by preventing liquids from escaping into the surrounding environment.
The investment is intended to strengthen the long-term competitiveness of RENOLIT’s Worms operations while upgrading infrastructure at the company’s headquarters.
Structural work on the building is scheduled for completion by December 2026, while installation of the new equipment is due to begin in November and run alongside construction.
The new dosing plant is scheduled to enter operation in June 2027.
