Sandvik AB is selling its additive aanufacturing business unit to Swedish investment firm Mimir, in a move aimed at sharpening its portfolio focus and accelerating the unit’s next phase of growth.

The unit, which sits within Sandvik’s Machining business area, produces metal powders used in additive manufacturing, metal injection molding, hot isostatic pressing, and specialized controlled-expansion alloys for advanced industrial applications.

Sandvik said the decision follows its ongoing portfolio review, where it weighs market position, growth prospects, and capital needs.

“This divestment is intended to better position the Additive Manufacturing business for its next growth phase, and we believe the new owner will provide the platform and dedicated focus needed to further develop the business towards its full potential,” says Stefan Widing, President and CEO of Sandvik.

Financially, the business is already classified as held for sale, and the transaction will trigger a non-cash impairment of around SEK 230 million, primarily linked to property, plant, and equipment. The charge will be reported as an item affecting comparability in the second quarter results.

Sandvik emphasized there will be no cash impact from the impairment. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, pending standard regulatory approvals.
