The expansion adds nearly 50,000 square feet to the architectural paint and coatings facility
Sherwin-Williams has officially opened an expanded manufacturing facility in Statesville, North Carolina, creating what the company says is now its largest plant in North America.
The company marked the milestone with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, capping years of planning, construction and collaboration. The expansion adds nearly 50,000 square feet to the architectural paint and coatings facility, along with expanded production space, automation upgrades, four new rail spurs and supporting infrastructure designed to speed material handling and improve efficiency.
The investment significantly increases manufacturing capacity and strengthens the company's logistics network as it responds to growing customer demand. The Statesville plant also works alongside a nearby Sherwin-Williams distribution service center, creating a hub linking manufacturing, transportation and distribution to the company's global operations.
"This grand opening marks an important milestone for Sherwin-Williams and our Statesville team," said Heidi Petz, Chair, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sherwin-Williams.
"With expanded production space, new rail infrastructure and greater automation, this facility gives us more flexibility and efficiency in how we manufacture and move products across our global supply network. It also advances our enterprise priority to strengthen supply chain responsiveness, helping us be an even more dependable and reliable supplier for our customers as we drive long-term growth."
The project was backed by a public-private partnership involving Sherwin-Williams, the state of North Carolina, Iredell County and the City of Statesville, which approved incentives to support the expansion.
"Sherwin-Williams has been an important part of the Statesville community for more than three decades, and we are proud to celebrate their continued investment in North Carolina," said North Carolina Lt. Governor Rachel Hunt.
"This expansion strengthens Statesville's role in advanced manufacturing, supports good jobs and reflects the confidence companies have in our people, infrastructure and business climate."
Sherwin-Williams has operated in Statesville since 1993. The company chose the site for expansion because of its transportation access, skilled workforce and strategic position within its broader manufacturing and distribution network.
"Projects like this show why Statesville continues to be a strong location for advanced manufacturing," said Statesville Mayor Doug Hendrix. "We are proud to support an expansion that brings together local talent, transportation access and public-private partnership to create lasting value for our community."
