Siris Crop Sciences has approached the Environment and Forests Ministry for an amendment in the environment clearance regarding its proposal for setting up a greenfield pesticide manufacturing unit at Dahej in Gujarat's Bharuch district .
The company had received environment clearance from the ministry in 2009 and the project got NOC from the Gujarat Pollution Control Board in 2010. The group is experienced in the field and has manufacturing unit in Hyderabad.
"The new plant will have four production blocks for manufacturing products and the production will be carried out batchwise. Construction and installation of equipment is under progress at the site. In the meantime, the market for agrochemicals has changed and therefore Siris proposes to amend its product mix, prior to commissioning of the project. Hence, this request for amendment in environment clearance," the company said.
In its letter to the Environment and Forests Ministry, the company said the estimated cost of the proposed project will be Rs 44 crore including building, plant and machinery. The total plot area is 26 acre.
As the plant is located in a GIDC administered notified industrial estate and the designated land use is industrial, there is no permanent or temporary change in land use.
The unit will produce 12300 MTPA of 34 pesticides.
The unit operations and unit processes involved for existing and additional products are of similar nature.
The company said effluents generated will be treated in effluent treatment plant and treated effluent meeting the norms of Gujarat Pollution Control Board sent to GIDC drainage.
"Siris is applying to the Impact Assessment Authority of the Environment and Forests Ministry for its revised product list. This presentation therefore aims to help secure an amendment to Siris' existing EC. It is therefore requested that the Expert Committee (Industry) amends our environment clearance," the company said.
