The company has acquired an additional 10 acres of land to fuel its next phase of growth, with a sharp focus on scaling up flame-retardant and polymer compounding products amid rising demand from both domestic and international markets.
SK Minerals & Additives Limited, a leading manufacturer of feed, food, and flame-retardant additives and a supplier of specialty chemicals, has announced a significant expansion of production capacity at its Khanna facility near Ludhiana, Punjab.
The company has acquired an additional 10 acres of land to fuel its next phase of growth, with a sharp focus on scaling up flame-retardant and polymer compounding products amid rising demand from both domestic and international markets.
Commenting on the expansion, Mohit Jindal, Chairman & Managing Director, SK Minerals & Additives Limited, said, “Indian OEMs across sectors such as electrical appliances, cables & wires, plastics, automotive, and electric vehicles are increasingly facing challenges in accessing advanced materials and technical expertise required to meet evolving global safety and regulatory standards.
"Our vision is to position India as a global hub for advanced and sustainable fire safety solutions.”
Demand for next-generation Halogen-Free Flame Retardant (HFFR) solutions is accelerating across cables & wires, electrical appliances, electronics, composites, and fibres, reflecting a broader shift toward safer and more sustainable materials.
Industry estimates place the global flame retardants market at over USD 8–9 billion, with projected growth of 6–7% CAGR over the next five years. The HFFR segment is expanding even faster at around 8–10% CAGR, driven by tighter environmental regulations and growing demand for low-toxicity, low-smoke alternatives.
With its planned capacity expansion, SK Minerals & Additives is positioning itself to capture this momentum, aiming to evolve into a technology-driven partner for OEMs navigating increasingly strict global compliance standards.
Jindal added, “We are witnessing strong interest from industry stakeholders as fire safety gains increasing importance across sectors. This encouragement reinforces our commitment to scale up capabilities and deepen our technical engagement with customers.”
A central feature of the expansion is the development of a dedicated R&D facility focused on advanced fire safety solutions. The centre will support Indian manufacturers in meeting stringent international standards, particularly in the US and European markets.
Driven by innovation, the company is also working on advanced technologies aimed at reducing India’s dependence on imports while strengthening domestic capabilities in high-performance flame-retardant solutions.
