Stahl has launched its Senoprint portfolio of metallic coatings worldwide, offering packaging producers and brand owners high-brilliance metallic finishes designed to deliver premium shelf appeal without traditional foil stamping.

 

The speciality coatings provider says Senoprint® enables metallic effects to be created directly during the printing process, providing a recyclable alternative to hot and cold foil applications while helping converters simplify production and reduce waste.

 

The Senoprint range builds on Stahl’s established LustreCoat portfolio, which was previously available across North America. The company has now brought the technology under a single global brand, making the metallic coatings available to customers worldwide.

 

The portfolio is designed to offer a more cost-effective alternative to traditional foiling, while delivering a mirror-like metallic finish without requiring a separate foiling operation.

 

Targeted at premium packaging and labelling, Senoprint can be used on paper and board through sheetfed, screen and flexo printing processes, as well as narrow web applications.

 

The range currently includes silver and gold finishes, while additional metallic colours can be created through overprinting.

 

Each metallic coating is paired with a protective topcoat developed by Stahl. Formulated as a single system with the metallic coatings, the topcoats are designed to maintain metallic brilliance while protecting against abrasion, handling and environmental exposure.

 

Senoprint is available in both UV-based and water-based formulations and has been developed to support lower-VOC packaging solutions.

 

The coatings are designed to be de-inked and recovered through standard paper recycling streams, according to Stahl. The company says the technology can help customers reduce waste and respond to changing packaging requirements, including the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
