WACKER has ramped up its India expansion drive, launching a major new silicone emulsions production complex at its Panagarh site. This marks a significant leap in capacity and capability for the fast-growing personal care market.
The 15,000-square-meter facility is now operational, producing GMP-certified silicones tailored for cosmetics and personal care products. The expansion is set to sharply increase WACKER’s silicone emulsion output in India while creating 60 new jobs.
Built to meet stringent European standards set by the EFfCI, the new complex underscores the company’s push toward high-quality, high-purity production.
“Our facilities in Panagarh are truly world-class and will produce top-quality, high-purity products which are in great demand, in particular in the cosmetics and personal care industries,” announced WACKER Executive Board member Christian Kirsten at the commissioning ceremony.
India’s booming personal care sector remains central to WACKER’s strategy. Its joint venture, Wacker Metroark Chemicals, already supplies silicone raw materials to both domestic manufacturers and global consumer goods giants.
“The demand for our silicone products remains unabated, and we expect to see further significant growth in India,” said Tom Koini of the company. “By expanding our production in Panagarh, we are ideally positioned to meet this rising demand and to support the growth of our customers.”
WACKER’s India journey dates back to 1999, starting at its Amtala site near Kolkata. More recently, the company began operations at its sprawling 165,000-square-meter Panagarh facility in 2022, producing silicone rubber and compounds for sectors including electromobility, medical technology, and power supply.
With this latest expansion phase complete, Panagarh is now emerging as a key production hub for silicone emulsions, complementing—and gradually relieving pressure on—the long-standing Amtala site.
“The successful completion of the expansion work in Panagarh is key to our future success in India,” declared Sascha Büchel of the company. “Our main site in Amtala has played an outstanding role. But Amtala is increasingly being stretched to its limits. Panagarh provides us the space, infrastructure, and flexibility we need to continue our success story in India.”
