New feature instantly identifies and counts insect pests

xarvio SCOUTING, from BASF Digital Farming GmbH, has introduced an instant pheromone trap analysis feature to support European growers of grapes, pome fruit and stone fruit this growing season.

The new, precision feature is accessible in the free to download and use xarvio SCOUTING smartphone app. Suitable for growers in France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the UK, the feature uses advanced image recognition technology, machine learning and algorithms to accurately identify and count codling moth, grape moth, and oriental fruit moth numbers in pheromone traps.

“At xarvio we remain focussed on providing greater convenience and value to farmers, advisors and growers, helping them optimize crop production, improve profitability and achieve greater sustainability. This is possible because our digital solutions enable faster, precise agronomic decisions including a more efficient use of crop applications,” says Eva Hill, Global Product Manager xarvio SCOUTING.

“Our unique pheromone trap analysis feature in xarvio SCOUTING underlines our focus, by delivering a field-tested solution that meets growers’ needs. We’re confident growers of grapes, pome fruit and stone fruit, will appreciate the value this new feature delivers, particularly its accuracy and the fact it saves them from the often tedious and time-consuming task of manually counting insect pests in pheromone traps,” concludes Hill.

xarvio SCOUTING is tailored to suit local agronomic conditions. In addition to its new pheromone trap analysis feature, it monitors nitrogen uptake, analyzes leaf damage, detects more than 400 weeds and recognizes damages caused by more than 400 different diseases, insect pests and nutrient deficiencies in over 60 different crops.
