PTRC and OIL will work together across key areas including Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), geothermal energy development, clean energy technologies, and innovation-led research initiatives

In a significant step toward advancing clean energy innovation and strengthening India-Canada cooperation in the energy sector, the Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC), Canada, and Oil India Limited (OIL) have signed a collaboration framework.

The pact is focused on carbon management, geothermal energy, and emerging clean energy technologies. And it underscores the growing importance of international partnerships in addressing energy transition and sustainability challenges.

PTRC and OIL will work together across key areas including Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), geothermal energy development, clean energy technologies, and innovation-led research initiatives.

The collaboration will also explore joint research opportunities with mc2+, the startup platform established under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India.

Under the framework, the two organizations will collaborate on: Utilization of captured CO₂ through permanent geological sequestration and mineralization. And development of innovative Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques aimed at reducing environmental impact and energy consumption in oil and gas production.

Identification of business and technology opportunities through their respective industry networks in India and Canada is also part of the pact. So are evaluation and development of geothermal energy projects of mutual interest.

The MoU also involves joint research involving subsurface energy production and subsurface storage through OIL and PTRC’s Energy Innovation Hub laboratory, as well as collaborative research and innovation initiatives with mc2+ to support startup-driven technological advancement.

The partnership is expected to accelerate knowledge exchange, foster technology development, and strengthen bilateral cooperation in building sustainable energy solutions for the future.
