The deal will see P2X Solutions begin deliveries of synthetic methane to avanca/Alternoil in October 2026

Finnish green hydrogen and synthetic fuels pioneer P2X Solutions has signed a long-term partnership with renewable LNG platform avanca Energy AG and its subsidiaries avanca Renewables AG and Alternoil GmbH to supply synthetic methane for Europe’s heavy-duty transport sector.

The deal will see P2X Solutions begin deliveries of synthetic methane to avanca/Alternoil in October 2026, with both sides planning to significantly expand the partnership. One key target is to increase delivery volumes tenfold from 2026 levels.

The synthetic methane, also known as e-methane or e-LNG, is an e-fuel that can be used with existing transport infrastructure and vehicles. Produced independently of fossil fuels, it offers a route to cutting emissions in sectors such as road and maritime transport.

P2X Solutions produces the fuel at its methanation plant in Harjavalta, Finland, by combining green hydrogen with captured carbon dioxide.

The partnership’s first focus will be heavy-duty road transport. P2X Solutions’ e-methane will be supplied to trucks through avanca/Alternoil’s renewable REEFUEL network, with the first commercial volumes expected to reach customers in 2026.

avanca Renewables AG sources bio-LNG and e-methane and manages partnerships with upstream producers across Europe. Alternoil operates Germany’s largest renewable LNG distribution network, with 56 fueling stations and more than 120 dispensing points available nationwide around the clock.

Together, avanca Energy AG and its subsidiaries cover the fuel chain from production and sourcing to distribution and refueling, backed by nationwide buffer stocks, logistics capabilities and an in-house maintenance team.

“With P2X Solutions, we are establishing a long-term supply partnership that strategically secures our e-LNG procurement. This collaboration enables us to integrate additional large volumes of green energy sources into Europe’s logistics chains in a predictable manner while consistently pursuing our decarbonization goals.

'In this way, we ensure economic security of supply, strengthen our market position across the entire value chain, and send a strong signal in support of expanding climate-friendly alternatives in the energy market,” says Jürgen Muhle, CEO & Chairman of the Board of avanca Energy AG.

“Our great partnership with avanca marks a defining moment for e-methane. The plant is in operation, and deliveries start in a couple of months. Together, we strengthen Europe’s energy self-sufficiency and produce clean fuels on industrial scale to power heavy-duty trucks across the region,” says Herkko Plit, Founder and CEO of P2X Solutions.

The partnership comes as European regulation is expected to accelerate demand for renewable hydrogen and synthetic fuels.

In May 2026, Germany adopted a 10 percent mandate by 2040 for green hydrogen and synthetic fuels in road transport as part of its efforts to comply with the EU’s RED III directive. The resulting demand could far exceed current production capacity.

“Germany is now setting an example for other EU countries with predictable, ambitious, and feasible regulation to achieve the union’s climate targets. Other EU countries will follow as they begin to implement their own measures. At the same time, there is an urgent need to scale up production capacity for clean fuels, as many pioneering companies in Europe are now interested in Finnish producers.

"This creates an excellent export opportunity for Finland, as the conditions for producing green hydrogen and synthetic fuels here are exceptionally good,” Plit concludes.
