The first phase of a 40 GWh battery energy storage system and cell giga-factory is nearing commissioning, with equipment already delivered on-site

Reliance Industries is doubling down on what it calls its most ambitious transformation yet—turning its New Energy business into a world-scale clean power ecosystem aimed at reshaping India’s energy future.

“There are businesses that create value. And then there are missions that shape civilisations," Chairman Mukesh Ambani told shareholders at the oil-to-retail conglomerate's annual general meeting.

"Our New Energy business is a unique combination of both. It is Reliance's most ambitious generational undertaking – designed to solve India's energy trilemma of security, affordability, and sustainability simultaneously, and at a scale that has no parallel," he added.

The company says FY26 marks a turning point, shifting the project from construction to commissioning.

At the centre of this transformation is the massive Dhirubhai Ambani Green Energy Giga Complex in Jamnagar, spanning 5,000 acres and now positioned as one of the world’s largest integrated clean energy manufacturing ecosystems. “This business is a manifestation of that dream," Ambani said.

Solar manufacturing moves into production

Reliance has begun production at its solar PV cell and module lines, with nearly 1 GW of Heterojunction Technology (HJT) modules already manufactured.

The company highlights performance gains from its HJT technology, including higher efficiency and lower degradation compared to conventional modules, and has secured ALMM listing—the first in India for this advanced cell type.

“This is a proud affirmation of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi's clarion call for 'Make in India'," the Reliance Chairman said.

The long-term goal is a fully integrated 20 GW annual solar manufacturing chain, spanning polysilicon to modules, reinforcing its push toward energy self-reliance. “Every step in this chain is a step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Battery giga-factory scaled up sharply

Momentum is also building in energy storage. The first phase of a 40 GWh battery energy storage system and cell giga-factory is nearing commissioning, with equipment already delivered on-site. Reliance has now expanded its ambition to 120 GWh annual capacity.

“This is the Holy Grail of affordable, sustainable, and self-sufficient Round-The-Clock (RTC) power – and Reliance is making it real," Ambani said.

Kutch emerges as global-scale renewable hub

A major renewable energy hub is taking shape across 5,50,000 acres in Kutch, designed to integrate solar and storage into a single continuous power system.

“The first phase of our 40 GWh annual BESS and Cell Giga Factory is on track to be commissioned this year. All the equipment has already been delivered at the site," Ambani said.

Once complete, the hub is expected to generate over 40 billion units of electricity annually—about 3% of India’s total power demand. "I want you to pause and absorb that number… 55 MWp of solar installations per day… 150 MWh of storage per day.”

The company says the project is designed for unprecedented deployment speed, backed by a dedicated transmission corridor linking Kutch to Jamnagar.

Green molecules and hydrogen ambitions

Beyond electricity, Reliance is pushing into green chemicals, including hydrogen-based products like green ammonia, green urea, and bio-methanol.

“Green electricity is the foundation. But green molecules are the transformation. Our Green Chemicals programme is advancing on plan," Ambani said.

A key milestone is a USD 3 billion long-term green ammonia supply agreement with Samsung C&T.

“I am proud to announce that Reliance has signed a landmark USD 3 billion long-term supply agreement with Samsung C&T for green ammonia, which is among the largest green ammonia offtake contracts in the world.”

The company aims to scale its green hydrogen equivalent capacity to 3 million metric tonnes over the next decade.

World’s first sovereign clean energy ecosystem

Reliance frames its entire strategy as an integrated national-scale energy shift. “Step back for a moment. Consider what we are truly building here… The world's first fully sovereign clean energy ecosystem," the Chairman said.

The vision is to eliminate reliance on imported fuels and external technology while building a fully domestic clean energy stack. "No imported fuel. No foreign technology. No exposure to the disruptions that have shaken the world this past year.”

Commercial revenues from solar and battery operations are expected to begin this year, with broader financial contribution from FY27 onward.

Bioenergy and coal gasification push

The company also continues to expand into compressed biogas, already accounting for over 40% of India’s production, with plans to scale significantly.

It is additionally developing Underground Coal Gasification technology to convert low-grade coal into cleaner syngas, aiming to reduce LNG imports and expand low-carbon energy supply.
