The funding is expected to incentivize around 7–10% of the project’s capital expenditure

TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, India’s largest ethanol producer and a leading integrated biofuels company, has secured Rs. 150 crore in financial assistance under the Government of India’s PM JI-VAN Yojana for its planned commercial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project.

The approval, granted by the Centre for High Technology (CHT) under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), marks a key step in the company’s expansion into advanced biofuels and low-carbon aviation solutions.

The funding is expected to incentivise around 7–10% of the project’s capital expenditure, improving viability and accelerating domestic SAF capacity creation.

The PM JI-VAN Yojana is designed to fast-track commercialization of advanced biofuels by supporting innovation, renewable feedstock use, and indigenous low-carbon fuel technologies. The scheme is part of India’s broader push toward energy security, rural value creation, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience.

At the centre of TruAlt’s plan is a proposed SAF facility with a production capacity of 10 crore litres per annum. The project is positioned as a strategic asset in India’s aviation decarbonisation roadmap, aligned with global CORSIA commitments and India’s SAF blending targets of 1% by 2027, 2% by 2028, and 5% by 2030.

Once operational, the facility is expected to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, strengthen domestic SAF supply chains, and help position India as a competitive global producer of sustainable aviation fuel amid rising international demand.

Commenting on the development, Vijay Nirani, Managing Director, TruAlt Bioenergy Limited, said: "This milestone represents far more than the development of a new facility, as the world accelerates towards decarbonizing aviation, Sustainable Aviation Fuel will become an indispensable pillar of the future energy landscape.

"At TruAlt, we are committed to building globally competitive, indigenous solutions that strengthen India's energy security while advancing climate goals. We are grateful to the Government of India for its continued support in fostering innovation and enabling the commercialization of next-generation biofuels. Together, we have the opportunity to position India as a global hub for sustainable fuels and clean energy technologies."

The project leverages TruAlt’s existing expertise in large-scale biofuel production and feedstock management, and is expected to play a key role in building India’s domestic SAF ecosystem as global aviation shifts toward cleaner fuels.
