Beyond manufacturing, it’s a major economic win, set to create over 8,000 jobs and spark industrial growth across the region

Waaree Energies Limited just broke ground on a new integrated solar ingot and wafer factory in Butibori, Nagpur, marking a major step forward for India’s clean energy goals and manufacturing independence.

With a 10 GW annual capacity for both solar ingots and wafers, this facility will become India’s largest integrated complex of its kind. The project significantly bolsters the nation’s upstream manufacturing ecosystem, creating a more resilient supply chain to support India’s booming solar industry.

This Rs. 6,200 crore facility covers 300 acres and focuses on producing high-purity solar ingots and wafers—the backbone of solar energy. By boosting domestic production of these upstream components, the project will slash India's import reliance, stabilize the supply chain, and drive the nation toward self-reliant clean energy. Beyond manufacturing, it’s a major economic win, set to create over 8,000 jobs and spark industrial growth across the region. The announcement was marked by a ceremonial event attended by senior government leaders and industry stakeholders, including Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, who joined Waaree’s leadership to mark the beginning of this landmark project.

Speaking on the occasion, Hitesh Doshi, Chairman and Managing Director, Waaree Energies Limited, said: “India’s clean energy transition will be powered not only by renewable deployment but also by building strong domestic manufacturing capabilities across the solar value chain. The groundbreaking of our integrated ingot and wafer facility in Nagpur marks an important step in strengthening India’s upstream solar manufacturing ecosystem.

By developing large-scale domestic capacity for these critical components, we aim to contribute to India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, reduce import dependence, and enhance the resilience of the country’s solar supply chain.

Nagpur’s strategic location, strong industrial ecosystem, and connectivity across India make it an ideal destination for a project of this scale. We are grateful for the continued support from the Government of Maharashtra in enabling this important initiative.

Beyond manufacturing, the project will contribute to local employment, skill development, and industrial growth in the region. As India progresses toward the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, building globally competitive clean energy manufacturing infrastructure will play a crucial role in establishing the country as a global hub for renewable energy technologies.”
