This strategic expansion is set to boost the company's chemical manufacturing capabilities
Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GSFC) has officially received board approval to construct a new phosphoric acid and sulphuric acid plant at its Sikka unit in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The upcoming facility will feature a daily production capacity of 600 metric tonnes per day (MTPD) for phosphoric acid. Additionally, it will capable of producing 1,800 MTPD of sulphuric acid.
This strategic expansion is set to boost the company's chemical manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its production footprint in the region. The core strategic rationale behind this double-plant expansion is long-term backward integration and industrial self-sufficiency. Phosphoric and sulphuric acids serve as foundational chemical feedstocks required to manufacture complex phosphatic fertilizers, such as Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP).
By establishing internal chemical manufacturing loops at Sikka, GSFC aims to insulate its manufacturing cost structures against volatile international commodity price fluctuations and reduce reliance on expensive imported raw ingredients.
The new facilities will be fully supported by necessary ancillary offsites and utilities required to sustain peak daily operations. The strategic announcement follows a pattern of high-capacity expansions at the Sikka complex, which also recently targeted global joint ventures for a massive green ammonia facility.
