Koch Ag & Energy Solutions and OCP Nutricrops are deepening their decades-long partnership with a new joint venture aimed at expanding phosphate fertilizer production and strengthening global agricultural supply chains.

 

The companies have signed an agreement for Koch to acquire a 50% stake in Jorf Fertilizers Company I (JFC I) from OCP Nutricrops, creating a 50/50 operating partnership once the transaction closes. The move will expand Koch’s phosphate fertilizer portfolio and build on the companies’ previous collaboration through their Kofert venture established in 2022.

 

JFC I operates a phosphate fertilizer production facility at Jorf Lasfar, Morocco, with the capacity to produce up to 1.2 million metric tons of phosphate-based fertilizers annually. The facility is part of the Jorf Fertilizer Complex, recognized as the world’s largest phosphate fertilizer production platform.

 

Following completion of the deal, the two joint ventures between Koch and OCP will represent a combined annual production capacity of approximately 2.5 million metric tons of phosphate-based fertilizers, positioning the partnership as a major supplier for customers worldwide, including North America.

 

The expansion comes as farmers and agricultural markets face growing demand for secure fertilizer supplies, diversified sourcing options and long-term solutions to strengthen food production systems.

 

The opportunity is particularly significant for North American agriculture following the U.S. administration’s recent temporary suspension of countervailing duties on Moroccan phosphate fertilizer imports, creating additional potential for the venture to supply farmers with critical plant nutrition products.
