Toyo Engineering Corporation (TOYO) has completed a major fertilizer plant project in Nigeria’s Rivers State, delivering its third fertilizer production line for Indorama Fertilizer FZE at the company’s existing complex.

 

The project marks another expansion of TOYO’s long-running partnership with the Indorama Group. TOYO previously completed the first fertilizer line at the site in 2017 and the second in 2021.

 

The newly completed third line comprises a 2,300-metric-ton-per-day ammonia plant and a 4,000-metric-ton-per-day urea plant, making it one of the world’s largest single-line urea facilities. The project also includes associated utility facilities and was built adjacent to the existing fertilizer complex.

 

The ammonia plant uses technology licensed by US-based Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR), while the urea plant features TOYO’s proprietary ACES21 urea synthesis technology.

 

TOYO provided urea technology licensing and Basic Engineering, alongside Detailed Engineering, Procurement, Construction support and Commissioning support for the entire fertilizer complex, including the ammonia plant and utilities.

 

A major share of the engineering work was carried out by TOYO’s Indian subsidiary, Toyo Engineering India Private Limited (Toyo-India), which also handled most procurement activities. The project was executed under the TOYO Group’s global execution framework, drawing on experience from the two earlier fertilizer projects at the site.

 

TOYO said that its experience with the preceding projects, combined with the proven performance of ACES21 technology, helped deliver a smooth start-up and stable plant operation.

 

The latest project strengthens TOYO’s role as a technology provider in Africa’s fertilizer sector, with the company positioning its urea technology and engineering capabilities as tools to support food-supply stability in Nigeria and across the continent.

 

TOYO said it will continue to support clients globally through engineering solutions and advanced process technologies, building on its long-standing expertise as a urea technology licensor.
