Air Liquide is investing more than $150 million in the United States to build and operate a new industrial gas production facility in Idaho, strengthening its role as a key supplier to one of the world’s leading memory chip manufacturers.
The new facility, scheduled to begin operations in 2028, will produce large volumes of ultra-pure nitrogen, oxygen and argon — critical materials used in the production of advanced semiconductor memory chips. The investment comes as demand for artificial intelligence technologies drives rapid expansion across the U.S. and global semiconductor markets.
The project marks a renewed partnership between Air Liquide and its semiconductor customer, supporting a major increase in production capacity and reinforcing Air Liquide’s position as a long-term partner to the chip industry.
As the U.S. accelerates efforts to expand domestic semiconductor manufacturing, Air Liquide is continuing to grow its footprint across key technology hubs, including Arizona, Indiana, Virginia, Texas and upstate New York. The company’s latest Idaho investment is aimed at supporting the reshoring of advanced chip production by ensuring access to the ultra-pure gases and materials required for next-generation manufacturing.
Matthieu Giard, Group Executive Committee member overseeing operations in the Americas, said: "This new investment underscores Air Liquide’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for critical industrial gases required to manufacture advanced semiconductor chips."
"Building on the strong relationship we have established as their current supplier, our customer’s decision to choose us for this new phase of growth demonstrates a deep and renewed trust in our proven capabilities in Idaho. As the U.S. market accelerates, we are proud to support our customer’s expansion and enable the breakthrough technologies of tomorrow.”
