Angola has taken a major leap into the global gas market, with Eni and its joint venture Azule Energy officially launching the country’s first non-associated gas project.

The NGC Gas Treatment Plant, inaugurated in Soyo, signals a new era in energy diversification, delivering 400 million cubic feet of gas per day and 20,000 barrels of condensate, while putting Angola on the map as a strategic player in global energy.

The ceremony was attended by President João Gonçalves Lourenço, Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas Diamantino Azevedo, and ANPG Chairman Paulino Jeronimo.

The New Gas Consortium (NGC) project, previously operated by Eni before the creation of Azule Energy, is Angola’s first non-associated gas development. It has a processing capacity of approximately 400 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd) and 20,000 barrels of condensate per day.

Gas from the offshore Quiluma and Maboqueiro fields is treated at the plant and supplied to the Angola LNG plant for both export and domestic consumption.

“This milestone marks a decisive step in positioning Angola as a strategic player in the global natural gas market,” said Eni. The NGC project is expected to support the country’s energy diversification and drive growth in other key sectors, including fertiliser production for agriculture.

The plant entered commissioning with gas in November 2025, kicking off operations just 24 months after the groundbreaking in October 2023 — six months ahead of schedule.

The New Gas Consortium is operated by Azule Energy, which holds a 37.4% stake, in partnership with Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (CABGOC) at 31%, Sonangol E&P at 19.8%, TotalEnergies at 11.8%, and ANPG as the national concessionaire.

“Eni is a digitally designed platform that offers an immediate overview of Eni's activities. It addresses everyone, recounting in a transparent and accessible way the values, commitment and perspectives of a global technology company for the energy transition,” the company added.
