EnviTec Biogas has brought a new biogas and gas upgrading plant online in Soncino, near Cremona, marking another step in Italy’s expanding biomethane market. The facility is now injecting 237 Nm³/h (250 Sm³/h) of biomethane into the public gas grid.

“This is a reason to celebrate together with our long-standing customer, the agribusiness entrepreneur Dr. Francesco Avogadri,” said Mario Della Bella, Managing Director of EnviTec Biogas in Verona.

The project strengthens a partnership that dates back to 2009, when Avogadri commissioned its first biogas plant with EnviTec. “After more than 15 years in the Italian market, we enjoy a lasting reputation as the only fully integrated biogas plant manufacturer and service provider,” Della Bella added.

Tailored for Azienda Avogadri, the Cremona plant runs on pig slurry and catch crops and reflects a broader push to decarbonise agricultural operations.

“EnviTec built the entire biogas plant, including biomass pre-treatment, anaerobic digestion and oxygen generation. The complete EnviThan biogas upgrading system was also designed and built by EnviTec, based on over 10 years of experience and development of three-stage membrane technology; it has been assembled at the site in Saerbeck and installed in Italy after factory testing,” said Gianluca Visconti, Sales Manager at EnviTec Biogas Italy.

Alongside pig breeding, the Avogadri group produces much of its own animal feed and is steadily replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy to cut emissions across its production cycle.

The Cremona start-up is part of a broader expansion pipeline for EnviTec in Italy. “At present, we have three more projects underway,” Della Bella said. One of them involves a 426 Nm³/h (450 Sm³/h) EnviThan plant for Azienda Agricola F.lli Scotti, currently being completed at EnviTec’s site in Saerbeck, Germany.

Another project in Istia d’Omrone, near Grosseto, will see an existing EnviTec biogas plant upgraded with a gas upgrading system and a new CHP unit. In Sermide, in the province of Mantua, EnviTec is expanding an operating plant with new gas-tight storage, an upgraded feeding system with substrate pretreatment, and a full renovation followed by ongoing service.

Industry momentum is also being driven by policy. The extension of Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) is expected to push the biomethane market closer to its targets, while additional support schemes are anticipated. With a broad technology portfolio and long-standing local presence, EnviTec says it is well positioned to capitalise on the next phase of growth.
