The move signals a decisive push into what Messer describes as the largest industrial gases market in Southeast Asia

Messer Group has moved aggressively to deepen its presence in Southeast Asia, announcing the completion of acquisitions in Singapore and Malaysia alongside a further deal agreement aimed at consolidating its regional platform.

The company confirmed it has acquired 100% of the shares in WKS Group, a leading local industrial gases player operating across Singapore and southern Malaysia. It has also completed the purchase of Wipco Industrial Sdn Bhd and signed an agreement to acquire Kobewel Kogyo Gases Sdn Bhd.

The move signals a decisive push into what Messer describes as the largest industrial gases market in Southeast Asia, strengthening its regional scale while tapping into fast-growing manufacturing corridors.

WKS Group brings six companies, 195 employees, and a diversified industrial gases portfolio spanning packaged gas filling stations, dissolved acetylene production, cylinder depots, welding equipment distribution, and specialist services for marine and offshore customers.

Its established reputation and customer base are expected to give Messer an immediate platform for expansion across Singapore and southern Malaysia.

Wipco, based in Ipoh, extends Messer’s reach into northern Malaysia with a cylinder filling station and a modern dissolved acetylene production plant. Its customer base spans manufacturing, semiconductor, and electronics industries—anchoring the company in one of Malaysia’s most advanced industrial corridors, closely linked to Penang’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Kobewel, operating from Sepang, strengthens Messer’s position in central Malaysia with a focus on packaged gases and direct end-user relationships. Its integration is expected to consolidate Messer’s Kuala Lumpur operations into a more efficient regional hub.

The company says the acquisitions will unlock operational synergies while expanding technical capabilities across high-growth sectors such as electronics, medical gases, and marine industries.

“This acquisition represents a milestone in our journey to become a leading player in the SEA industrial gases market,” said Peter Mohnen, CEO. “By combining WKS Group, Wipco and Kobewel’s local expertise with our global capabilities, we are well-positioned to deliver innovative solutions and drive sustainable growth in Singapore, Malaysia, and beyond.”
