NovaAir Industrial Gases, the Malaysian subsidiary of Yingde Gases, has inaugurated a 300-tonnes-per-day liquid air separation unit (ASU) in Greater Kuala Lumpur, bolstering the country’s industrial gas supply and reinforcing the group’s long-term commitment to Malaysia.
Commissioned in August 2026 at UMW High-Value Manufacturing Park, the facility is designed to meet rising demand from Malaysia’s high-value manufacturing sector while strengthening Yingde Gases’ foothold in Southeast Asia.
Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), underscored the strategic importance of the investment, saying, “Industrial gases may be unseen, but they are essential to the industries powering Malaysia’s next phase of growth.
"NovaAir’s investment strengthens this critical foundation, advancing the ambitions of NIMP 2030 and the Chemical Industry Roadmap 2030 while enabling stronger domestic supply chains, higher-value industrial activities and skilled employment opportunities for Malaysians.”
Charlene Quek, General Manager of NovaAir, said the investment reflects the group’s commitment to building deeper ties with Malaysia and supporting its industrial ambitions.
“Malaysia hosts Yingde Gases’ very first regional headquarters outside China. NovaAir aims to forge deep, long term partnerships with Malaysian local businesses and contribute to Malaysia’s national industrial ambition. The KUL liquid ASU and Alliance Steel project together demonstrate our confidence and sustained investment in this market.”
The new plant will produce oxygen, nitrogen, argon and high-purity oxygen for a broad range of downstream industries, including chemicals, electrical and electronics, oil and gas, food processing, steelmaking and new-energy lithium battery production.
Its proprietary air separation technology was developed and manufactured in-house by Yingde Engineering, the group’s engineering subsidiary. Artificial intelligence-driven control systems are also designed to improve energy efficiency and reduce the facility’s carbon footprint.
By securing a reliable supply of high-quality industrial gases, NovaAir aims to support technological upgrading across downstream sectors and help position Malaysia as a high-tech manufacturing hub in Southeast Asia.
The Kuala Lumpur investment builds on NovaAir’s existing operations at the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP), where it runs three large-scale, 20,000 Nm³/h on-site air separation units serving Alliance Steel (Malaysia).
The project represents Yingde Gases’ largest overseas on-site ASU complex to date, supplying high-purity oxygen, nitrogen and argon for Alliance Steel’s steelmaking operations and expansion plans. The Alliance Steel facility holds ISO 9001 quality management, ISO 14001 environmental management and Halal certifications.
Senior representatives from MIDA and Invest Selangor attended the inauguration, alongside key customers, industry partners, contractors and management teams from Yingde Gases and NovaAir.
NovaAir aims to push capacity utilisation at its Kuala Lumpur plant above 90% within two years, as Yingde Gases prepares to deepen its investment in Malaysia over the next three to five years.
The group’s ambition is to establish NovaAir among Malaysia’s top three industrial gas suppliers, while using its Malaysian regional headquarters as a platform to pursue opportunities in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
