Oil India Ltd has announced that the well has been killed with brine solution and under control now. Fire has been doused completely. There is no pressure in the well now and the same will be observed for 24 hrs to check if there is any amount of gas migration and pressure build up. Further operation to abandon the well is in progress.
The fire at the Oil India Limited (OIL) gas well in Baghjan was extinguished on Sunday, close to six months after the May 27 blowout. A snubbing unit from Canada, which arrived at Baghjan in Tinsukia on November 4 with 59 tonnes of equipment, “killed” the Baghjan well using the “snubbing” technology. The team began the presnubbing activities from November 6, while the actual operation began two days later. After multiple attempts to kill the well turned out to be unsuccessful, a team of experts was roped in from Calgary, Canada, to work with Singapore-based Alert Disaster Control experts to bring the situation under control.
Dr. P.Chandrasekaran, Director (Exploration and Development), P.K.Goswami, Director (Operations) and D K Das, Resident Chief Executive visited the Baghjan well site and had detailed discussions with the experts from Singapore based firm Alert Disaster Control and OIL team.
Recently, the company announced discovery of hydrocarbons at Well Dinjan-1 in Tinsukia Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) in the Upper Assam Basin. The well encountered multiple sands in Kopili, Narpuh and Lakadong+ Therria formations with a total net pay of about 10 m. On testing, a 3-m Lk + Th sand at a depth of 3,614 m, it produced gas @ 115,000 SCMD through 5 mm bean with FTHP - 3750 psi. This discovery will open up new areas for further oil & gas exploration in Assam and would help in enhancing the gas production with future appraisal & development activities.
