Borealis retains top rank in European patent index 2024 in Austria, files 121 new priority patent applications

Borealis holds an extensive patent portfolio, comprising around 12,300 patents in total


Borealis has announced that it has once again been ranked as the top innovator in Austria according to the European Patent Index 2024. This great achievement underlines the company’s unwavering dedication to innovation and the continued commitment to delivering sustainable solutions to its customers.

When pushing the boundaries of technology, Borealis aims to protect its innovations with strong intellectual property rights. In 2024, Borealis filed a total of 121 priority patent applications. The Group holds an extensive patent portfolio of around 12,300 patents in total, including granted patents and pending patent applications.

In recent years the majority of patent application filings has been in the following areas:

* Energy (including Borlink, Borealis’ innovative high voltage cable jacketing technology)

* Production processes (Borstar process)

* Consumer products for flexible and rigid packaging

* Circular economy solutions (Borcycle technology).
