Contributes to bp’s $20 billion divestment programme and reset strategy to focus the downstream
bp has agreed to sell its mobility & convenience and bp pulse businesses in the Netherlands to Catom. This sale is part of bp’s previously announced $20 billion divestment program and is expected to close by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approvals.
This latest move exemplifies bp’s strategy to reshape and strengthen its downstream businesses by focusing on leading integrated positions.
The transaction includes approximately 300 bp-owned or branded retail sites—some equipped with on-site EV charging infrastructure—along with 15 operational bp pulse EV charging hubs, eight more under development, and the associated Dutch fleet business.
Catom, founded in 1998, is a fast-growing company in the trade, distribution, and sale of fuels and lubricants in the Netherlands. With this acquisition, Catom will expand its OK retail network to over 400 strategically located sites across the country. Catom was chosen as the successful bidder for presenting the best overall offer, including strong future business plans and commitments to protect employee terms and conditions.
Emma Delaney, EVP Customers & Products at bp, said: “We have built a high-quality retail and convenience business in the Netherlands, but as part of Reset bp and our focus on downstream, we believe a new owner is best positioned to take the Dutch business forward. We are working closely with Catom to ensure a smooth and swift completion with minimal disruption to our people and customers.”
Jan Willem Westerhuis, CEO of Catom & OK, said: “With this acquisition, we’re well on our way to becoming the number one brand in our industry in the Netherlands. We’re delighted and excited to welcome all our new colleagues.”
In its 1Q25 results, bp updated its divestment guidance to $3–4 billion for 2025, with $1.5 billion signed or completed so far. Further updates on divestment progress will be provided with the 2Q25 results.
